This module aims to offer a critical overview of the Millennium Development Goals formulated by the United Nations and then detail Goal number 8: Develop a Global Partnership for Development. MDG8 links development with different pillars of the world economic system such as the trade system, the financial architecture as well as the technological infrastructure. Ultimately, the purpose of this module is to put the analysis of the MDG 8 on scientific grounds, addressing both the compatibility of the Millennium Development Goals and actions with economic and political rationales, and the need for political and public support of the MDGs ambitious initiative.
HIV/AIDS, Malaria and Other Diseases continue to expand in numbers and reach, especially indeveloping countries. As a consequence, the centrality of prevention and mitigation through education is being recognized in countries and among agencies. Educational interventions across a range of settings should provide the knowledge and encourage the development of attitudes and skills that can limit the spread and impact of the epidemic.
There are two main goals of the present course module, which is comprised of various Learning Objects: i) To prevent new infections from taking place, ii) To reduce stigma and discrimination. The ultimate aim of this course module is to contribute in preventing the spread of HIV, and, other transmitted diseases. Given the huge numbers of deaths that might still be prevented, the importance of effective education cannot be overestimated.- Teacher: Petros Georgiakakis
